Double Elite Capture XP Weekend - a thought or two
Quote:
Double XP for Elite Captures
This weekend you will receive double XP for each Elite Skill that you capture. This experience boost will start at Noon (-7 GMT) Pacific time this Friday, and will extend through 11:59 PM (-7 GMT) Pacific Time on Sunday

Don't get me wrong, weekend events are awesome at encouraging people to try new areas of the game out and keep things interesting. However with HFF the easiest and safest way to get a max survivor, I think Double XP Skill Capture weekends are pretty much defunct. Why risk going through to the harder areas of 3 continents, when you can get a run through half a continent and save yourself the time / effort / risk? It's a shame because there was a time when hopeful survivors were looking forward to Double Cap XP, but now I think it's maybe time to put it to bed and take it out of their weekend reward rotation.
Obviously this is all objectionable and different aspects of the game appeal to different people, but I feel pretty confident that not many people will be bothered to make a date with Guild Wars this weekend purely for the XP bonus. It feels a little disconcerting, as I don't remember a time I've felt more inclined to think that anet are 'out of touch' with what I want from this game. (zaishen emote, 'temporary' skill balances, weekend rewards that are essentially no longer terribly useful). I know that sounds very egotistical / narrow minded, but it's just how I feel about the changes in gameplay they have introduced recently.
No doubt all will be forgotten with an awesome weekend next week, but with the lack of enthusiasm in this weekend I think all the strange decisions by anet (in my mind at least) over the last couple of weeks are adding up. What do you guys think? Are anet down with the kids, or are they the equivalent of your dad's embarrassing dancing?

Well not everyone has Factions. Also, to some people, this is two birds with one stone. (Capturing all elite skills and going for legendary survivor at the same time.)

I'm looking forward to it as I'm in need of those extra skill points so that i can continue onward with my skill capping. I can make more progress on the title without having to stop to grind or do missions for more xp to get those skill points.

Overall I think alot of the weekends are useless. The only ones I care about are double AB because its a kickstart for luxon title without fff, and also double rep points because 50% grind is always good.

I was going to use it to boost a survivor necro up to rank 2.... then I remembered what a mind-numbing waste of time that entire title track is and quit at something like level 6.
Not a bad idea if you have the patience to creep the game, because there's a lot of easy skill caps around that won't risk working out the death counter.

I've been looking forward to this as I am working on LS for 3 characters. I've been doing it without so much "grind" - that is, by playing thru the game rather than faction farming. So, for me, this is a boon!
And for those who do the hFFF, or EotN Kilroy route, and won't make a special effort to be online this weekend - good! Sunday is Mother's Day after all.

The biggest problem with this event is the redundancy.
I'm pretty sure that if you totaled up the most frequent weekend 'event', this one tops the list. Further, with the proper prep work (all outposts available prior to the event), you only need this type of weekend once. Finally, the game just gives away XP in places like UW, FoW and DoA at this point, what with superfast Ursan runs. (29 minute HM UW, anyone?)
So, it's not like you need the XP, nor do you need this event to come around for the eighth time, as you'd have gotten the benefit if you needed it by the fifth or sixth time they ran this event, no?

When I was going for skill hunter on my warrior, I used to soak up these weekends-it's basically a cheap source of easy skill points.
Although now he has like 500+ skill point unused....

Nope. Dwarven boxing is the easiest and safest way to get a max survivor. And you don't even need any runs.

Nope. Lag at boxing and it's GG for you. Lag at HFFF and it's GG for your heros.

Both survivor and skillhunter are complete. But good luck to the other ambitious characters!

Pff, we finally get another PvE weekend and you still start QQing. It's a nice plus if you are capping skill, and very helpful to new characters imo.

Wow, what a stupid, ignorant comment. You have no idea how Internet works do you? It's a complicated and highly outdated web, lags can occur even if you have the best ISP in the world cause there are lots of gates in between. But you probably live next to the data center and pretend to be smart.

er theres no QQing. I just think that the only people that will activly seek and participate in this are characters going for survivor title, and there are safer and easier ways to do this now. As for useful for new characters, in Prophecies and Nightfall you'll most likely to be lv20 before you start capping elites anyway. With Factions maybe you can start capping at lv15ish, but thats a moot point, as XP is pretty easy to gain through quests in Factions. The way i see it either
You are going for survivor, but there are safer / quicker ways of getting your XP
You are skill capping, but have 500 skill points in the bank already

It's completely pointless imo. I would really like them to add in another 2x gwen and ss/lb points weekend. This way, those with a life wont have to grind so hard.
